Gary Numan - Prophecy (Exile)

We are deceived
Valhalla is falling
We are betrayed
We are lost and forsaken.
He's sold the world
Sold us all to the hunger
The body of Christ
Is as black as his soul.

The word of the Lord
Is the lie of your father
This mortal sin
Is a voice of shame.
Look at the storm
Like a dying apostle
Cruel and divine
Like the ghost of man.

And now you realise
I am the truth.

Worship the dead
The damned and misled
Tortured and bled
Like the voices of reason.
Sacred and pure
Sanctified obsession
Holy and cured
Like a doorway to heaven.

Sisterhood cried
Innocence lied
Purity died
With the angels of passion.
Blessed are they
Who pay homage to rumour
I've seen the light
Shine on the grave of Man.

And now you realise
I am the truth.

And I believed.
Amen.

In all fairness, how often do you hear music these days which doesn't sound a bit like someone else's music? Don't know the track you're referring to, but does it matter, both Depeche Mode and Gary Numan create really enjoyable music.

You seem to be implying that 'they' let artists perform songs on TV based on quality. Lol. If anything, it's because the lyrics would probably offend people. And people don't have to explain their opinions. If you don't like it, you don't like it. Whatever.

I'm sure they keep an ear on each others work. Really though does it matter. Numan pioneered this style of music, so its not like some johnny come lately ripping off the classics.

In a VH1 clip around the time of Exile Gary Numan says that he likes Walking in my shoes by Depeche Mode and that the sound has influenced him quite a lot on both of the albums (I reckon Sacrifice and Exile). My impression is that Gary's been very open about being influenced by other artists e.g. David Bowie, Kraftwerk, John Foxx/Ultravox etc. (and of course NIN and the like these days). Has he ever claimed to be ground-breaking and original? (Song-writing wise at least not...)
